What is effective DPI?
DPI (dots per inch) describes how many pixels of your image cover each printed inch. The same image can be 600 DPI as a manga page and 200 DPI blown up to magazine size, so resolution only means something relative to the printed size. This tool scales your image to cover the full bleed area of the chosen format, exactly the way a printer will, and reports the resulting density.
Why 300 DPI?
300 DPI is the commercial printing standard for color and grayscale art: below it, line work softens and small lettering gets fuzzy. Many printers recommend 600 DPI for pure black-and-white line art. Above 300 DPI for color adds file size without visible benefit.
My page is low resolution. Now what?
First, re-export from your art program at the correct pixel dimensions (see the table above); most low-DPI problems are export settings, not the art itself. If the original file simply is not big enough, consider printing at a smaller trim size, such as manga size instead of standard comic size, which raises the effective DPI of the same file.
